PEPPER Reports for IRF & SNF being released

PEPPER reports for IRF and skilled swing beds was released in April while skilled facility PEPPER reports are expected to be released between May 5 through May 12, 2014.

The Program for Evaluating Payment Patterns Electronic Report (PEPPER) can help guide the SNF’s auditing and monitoring activities. Beginning in March 2013, skilled nursing facilities were required to have an updated and more comprehensive corporate compliance plan. PEPPER reports are but one tool that can be used for self-auditing.

PEPPER is a data report based on claims submitted to the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for specific target areas. The report shows how a SNF’s data compares to aggregate jurisdiction, state and national statistics.
Facilities should also know that PEPPERs will no longer be mailed to providers who previously received their PEPPERs by mail. They will now be able to access them through a secure portal through QualityNet.

Facilities wishing to have a review of their PEPPER report – a translation of their risk and opportunity – please contact Brendan Rowe at GPS, The fee for the PEPPER Report review is $200 and includes a written report detailing outlier issues, identification of risk areas and self-audit opportunities as well as recommendations for operational and clinical changes based on the findings.
